I had been contemplating about leaving my job for about 1.5 months, until yesterday, when i finally decided screw it , i am gonna take the call. So here i was yesterday sitting face to face with my manager handing over my resignation to him and having no other backup job.

To go ahead, Let me introduce myself first!.

ABOUT YOURS TRULY

Hi everyone, my name is Siddhant, i am 24 years old ,did my Mechanical Engineering from BITS Pilani and was working as a senior Application Developer at one of the world’s topmost Bank until yesterday. It was my first job right after graduating 5 months ago and i was being paid good amount of money.

WHY vs WHEN?

Right from the first week that i joined the company , i knew that i wasn’t going to last here much longer. Anyone who has worked in a Bank can tell you that there is a lot of paperwork and administrative tasks involved in your day to day activities. Even the culture was of self preservation rather than collaboration or discussing ideas.

“The real question for me was not WHY but WHEN?”

It turns out that sometimes answering WHEN can be harder than answering WHY, as you can never , time the right time. I was especially confused whether to take the call or not as it had been just 5 months that i joined the organisation.Leaving an organisation in just 5 months ,well that doesn’t look good on a CV. I simulated a million scenarios in my head of what could potentially happen and honestly they ranged from running a billion dollar company to if nothing works out, getting a low paying job. This was the deciding factor for me, if nothing works out i will eventually find a job but if i don’t take any chance i am surely gonna look back and regret it for the rest of my life.

OK SO WHAT DO YOU REALLY WANNA DO?

My Target: “I want to build a product or service of value and try getting users to pay for it.”.

SOME FACTS

To take on this challenge, i need to access my current financial situation in order to know the time-frame and set the relevant context for it.

Now if i break down my finances i have around 1.3 lakhs left in my account. If i assume an average rent of 10k and miscellaneous expenses of 5k, my burn rate is 15k and this will last me for roughly around 8 months. So if i bet on me, i need to achieve the target in 8 months , possibly earlier , cause if i fail i need some buffer time for finding a new job or to raise more money.

HOW?

The way i approach the challenge is to break it down into smaller sub-problems. Broadly i have to check these off:

Product: Think of an idea or multiple ones, that solves some important problem.

Development: Learn the tech required and implement it in an accelerated approach , that is fast prototyping and multiple iterations.

Design: To sell a product it should be really well designed and user friendly. So learning about design and creating amazing ui experience is a must for it’s success.

Users: This is the trickiest part of the challenge, to find people to use your product and on top of it pay for it. For this i will try to expand my network through twitter, youtube and medium. I am starting from 1 follower on twitter from today!

At-least not starting from 0!

Let the grind begin!!. I will be documenting strategies, failures and my findings every week.
